In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.

Spread the beef and sauce mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the mixture.

Arrange tater tots in a single layer over the cheese and beef mixture. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the tater tots.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until tater tots are golden and crispy, and cheese is melted and bubbly.

If desired, add mini pepperoni, olives, or other pizza toppings to the casserole. Bake for an additional 5 minutes until toppings are heated through.
