Onion Latte Caramelized Coffee (Print Version)

Creamy latte blending caramelized onion syrup and rich espresso for a truly adventurous sip.

# Ingredients:

→ Caramelized Onion Syrup

01 - 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
02 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter
03 - 1 tbsp brown sugar
04 - 1/2 cup water

→ Latte

05 - 2 shots (60 ml) espresso or strong brewed coffee
06 - 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk or plant-based milk alternative
07 - 2–3 tbsp caramelized onion syrup, to taste
08 - Ice cubes, optional for iced version

# Steps:

01 - In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring often, until deeply golden and caramelized (about 10–12 minutes). Stir in the brown sugar and water, simmer for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids. Let syrup cool.
02 - Prepare 2 shots of espresso or strong brewed coffee.
03 - Steam or heat the milk until hot and frothy. In each mug, combine 1 shot espresso and 1–1.5 tbsp onion syrup. Pour in the steamed milk, stir gently to combine, and adjust sweetness as desired.
04 - Fill a glass with ice. Add 1 shot espresso and 1–1.5 tbsp onion syrup. Top with cold milk, stir well, and serve immediately.

# Notes:

01 - Taste the onion syrup before adding to the latte; adjust sweetness as needed.
02 - For a vegan version, use plant-based butter and milk.
03 - Garnish with a pinch of ground cinnamon or a twist of black pepper for an extra layer of flavor.
04 - Pair with savory breakfast pastries for a unique brunch experience.
