In a large microwave-safe mug or bowl, combine pasta, water, and salt. Microwave uncovered on high for 4–5 minutes, stirring every 1–2 minutes, until pasta is cooked and most of the water is absorbed.

Add milk, shredded cheese, and cream cheese or butter if using. Stir well.

Microwave for another 30–60 seconds until cheese is melted and sauce is creamy.

Stir again and let sit for 1 minute before serving.
